Paragraph on dogs
So far we have focused mainly on written sentences about dogs, but now we will learn a whole paragraph on dogs. Many of my students need to write paragraphs as part of English tests, or for homework, so in many of my English sentences articles, I like to include example paragraphs to show a template on how to write a good paragraph. Let’s have a look:
Dogs are animals that come in various sizes, shapes, colors, and personalities. Over my lifetime I have kept five dogs as pets. Each one looked very different from the others and also had very different personalities to each other. My first dog, named Jesse, was full of energy and would get excited and jump around at the slightest encouragement. My second dog, Ralph, was much calmer than Jesse. He was completely loyal and would spend most of his days sitting by my side or walking at my side.
Although each of my dogs had different personalities, I liked them all equally. In my opinion, dogs are pure and beautiful animals. The dog breeds I have owned are German shepherds, golden retrievers, and poodles. These are my favorite breeds, but I believe every kind of dog, no matter what breed they are, or are not, is a wonderful creature that deserves our care and respect. It hurts my soul when people mistreat these beautiful animals. That is why I feel some dogs become dangerous, it is because they have had mistreatment by humans. Let’s take care of dogs the best we can!
My pet dog paragraph
As a natural complement to our lines on dogs, we will now look at a paragraph about my pet dog, Jack. This will show you an example of paragraph structure and verb tense, to help you make better English sentences. Try to notice whether we use the simple present or simple past tense.
I have a pet dog called Jack. He is a golden retriever. I consider him to be one of my best friends! Although he can’t talk or communicate with me in a human sense, I do feel that he can communicate with me. He can notice when I’m down, and he also realizes when I’m feeling happy and energetic and responds accordingly. If I’m feeling excited, it is almost as if he mirrors this excitement in his body language.
My dog is great because he keeps me healthy, as I go walking every day with him. I like to take a different route as much as possible to keep things interesting. It is also good for Jack as he can meet other dogs from the neighborhood and have some communication with them. I think having a dog as a pet is a very valuable and pleasant experience, that I highly recommend!
